The First Days

It's been a great four days so far. A big shout out to all of those who've been so wonderful!

Thanks Tony at the firehouse in Belford where we spent our first night right off the ferry!

Thanks David, for helping us out with a tube for Lara's flat on Saturday morning
Thanks to Pete at the at Knapp Bicylces outside of Trenton who took us over to Washington Crossing after we endured thunderstorms the whole second day!

Thanks Amy and Ryan for the delicious dinner and fantastic company!

Thanks Wanda and Roger at the Farm in PA with the strawberries who helped us along with a refreshing drink and strawberries for breakfast on Sunday!

And A big thanks to Ilene, Kathy, Gavin and the great guy who's name I can't remember who shared their breakfast with us this morning! Dunkin Donuts feast =)

PA is so green and the bike rout is expertly marked, so smooth going this first week.

Saturday we rode 50 miles in the rain and it was great fun. So much rain it was like swimming on bikes! We overshot our destination by accident and Pete took us over to Washington crossing in his truck, because he lives over there (cheating, I know). We decided after the day's toils we really didn't want to do urban camping in Trenton, NJ.

Sunday we got a bit hung up around Washington Crossing (where Washington first crossed the Delaware River) and didn't make much progress. We spent most of the day fixing our bikes and then after some riding met up with Ryan and Amy, and had a beer in this crazy biker town, New Hope. We camped on the PA side of Washington Crossing, slacklined and swam in the Delaware - ya, bathing=awesome.

Monday we sent a box home for fear our little legs just wouldn't get us up the coming hills! It was good riding, 50 miles that day. And just to spite us, we passed four post offices along the way. Yes four, right off the side of the road. The hills were little and we had fresh picked strawberries for breakfast and hung out with some horses at lunch. We camped out in some random persons yard (they let us) and it was beautiful, but unfortunately everything was very dewy and wet this morning.

We're almost to york now. We've hit our first really big hills today and they are Killer!! Sometimes I just feel like I'm going to roll down backwards. We've done about 30 miles so far and I think we'll get in another 20, but we're pretty beat. All that drinking and doing nothing and then the moving frenzy last week wasn't much of a training regiment, I guess.

Hope you're all doing well. We miss you already!

Love

Maya
